[Almost] Wordless Wednesday

Unrelated to Sonny and parelli, this is Sheldon (a.k.a. The Big Bang :)).

He is a dutch/thoroughbred cross that I am currently riding. He is an LBE and so much fun! I adore him!!

DONE

I am done with school for the year! It feels so great. Semesters were long and drawn out as opposed to quarters, but overall I do think it went faster than usual. I am so glad that it is over with.

Now hopefully onto horsey time. Looks like someone needs a little TLC....

Poor guy was put on the backburner all week...

Funny Sonny

When Sonny was at liberty the other day he got away from me. He normally goes to the other end and comes back. As he came back to me, he did something I would never expect my LBI to do: he went sideways over a pole on his own!

Okay, so I know that he likes to think he knows what I am going to ask of him and he will do anything if he thinks a rest or treat might be in store, but for him to walk up to a pole that we hadn't been going sideways over and just decide to stop half way over it and sidepass down the entire thing....that's pretty funny!

I was NOT expecting him to do anything of the sort, so by the time I realized what was happening he was almost done but I caught the very end of it on tape.

I love the face he gives me at the end. "That's what you wanted, right mom?". He's so stinkin' cute!

Wordless Wednesday

Here comes Sonny Boo Boo! 

Parelli...Without Parelli

I am not going to go into too much detail here, but just some food for thought for the weekend (since I will be too busy to post the next few days).

As I was riding a dressage mare yesterday, I went to pick up my reins like Linda does: I held the buckle with one hand and slid them up through my other hand. I have been playing some with the GoC here and there so it has just become habit for me to do that. Can you guess what the mare did? Stretched into the contact. So just out of curiosity, I just started combing my reins. Can you guess what the mare did? Stretched into the contact even more. Hmmm how interesting! 

Today I started to teach a different mare the seven games. This mare has only had human contact for about a month now, but is three years old. She had spent all that time out in a field with like 200-300 other mares and babies. I didn't plan on doing much with her today because I was expecting to just play friendly game with the carrot stick. Well we blew through the first four games. In half an hour. Wow. Looks like she is LB, but regardless she literally acted like someone had taught her the games before (which is not true). By the end of our quick session, she was already turning and facing me when I just bent over. Phase 1 driving game, in just a few minutes. I know Pat says horses already know levels 1 through 3, but that still blew me away. Something tells me that huge herd of horses had something to do with our success today... Hmmm how interesting!

As I get the opportunity to be around more and more horses (and I will explain more about these two fabulous mares soon), I feel more and more confident in my choice of following Parelli. I have been seeing correlations with horses and owners and training methods and so on, and when I like what I see, I can usually pick up on a few of the quirky, little suggestions of Parelli. But, again, just food for thought ;).

It's currently 1:00 in the morning. I am still up, [attempting] to study for my two midterms today. Not going too well.
