Horsenality Statistics

I often find myself wondering about horsenality statistics. Considering a good part of the horse people population probably doesn’t even know what a horsenality is, it would probably be next to impossible to figure these out (some more than others), but it is still fun to think about.

-What is the most common horsenality in the world today? Least common?

-Are people attracted to horses with a horsenality that matches their humanality?

-Obliviously right brain horses survive the best in the wild, but to RB horses that also have LB tendencies
survive better or worse than horses with only RB qualities?

-Do different styles of riding favor certain horsenalities? (Racing vs. dressage vs. jumping, etc.)

-Is there a certain horsenality associated with different breeds? For instance, I know of multiple arabians that are RBI and a few draft horses that are LBI; does that mean certain breeds commonly have a specific horsenality?

Feel free to comment or e-mail me your horsenality statistic questions or what you believe might be the answer!! :) (labelle012@yahoo.com)

  1. Fun things to think about! I'd love to know which is most/least common. Would be a fun thing to chart at the fasttrack.

Pat has put out charts on which horsenality is best for which sport several times.

Regarding breeds/horsenality, yes, some breeds are specifically bred to have certain horsenalities so they perform best in their chosen sport. Your LBI drafts, RBI warmbloods, and RBE TBs and Arabs, for example, are best suited to their specific endeavors. Even certain strains within breeds can be horsenality specific - backyard QH's tend to run towards LBI/RBI, performance QH's tend to run towards the RBE/LBE side of things. Of course, there's always the exception to the rule...we have four draft horses and all horsenalities are represented in our herd (LBI, RBI, LBI/RBI, and LBI/LBE/RBE - my Dixie!).

  2. Wow interesting information! I will have to see if I can find the charts Pat has!

Huh. Since we are both going to different fast tracks now (Bummer!) maybe we could take note and compare? :)

  3. i have an american bashkir curly horse gelding and he started out as an LBI but is now mostly LBE. and so. much. fun!!! i'm an RBE...

a friend of mine has an arab gelding that is LBE, a morgan mare that is RBE (i think she is more RBI, but we have agreed to disagree LOL) and she has a morgan gelding that is classic LBI. she hasn't done a humanity test yet, but i would guess her as an LBE.

i find horsenalities to be so interesting! i'm always testing myself to see if i can figure out a horse's horsenality.

i love your blog! i've had fun reading through your posts this morning :)
